When asked to view a movie on a smartphone screen, display engineers came to realise that the look and feel of content was lacking in cinematic colour. By integrating Master Monitor tuning into Xperia 1, engineers were able to recreate this cinematic colour with such a high specification that the technology can be used at cinema production sites. With a 4K HDR OLED display in near CinemaScope ratio, Xperia 1 supports the ITU-R BT.2020 colour space with 10-bit tonal gradation to reflect the creators’ intent – even when viewing the most subtle gradations like the sky.
